NASA Earth to Sky Idaho

Earth to Sky is a national partnership uniting scientists, interpreters, and educators from NASA, the National Park Service, and beyond to connect cutting-edge research with the people who bring it to life.

The WaterShed is a founding member of Earth to Sky Idaho, a regional team cultivating bold, place-based climate communication for Idaho's distinct landscape. We bridge leading-edge climate science with innovative education to help communicators tackle the issues hitting closest to home: drought, wildfire, and warmer temperatures.

Through workshops, webinars, and a growing network of climate educators, we're turning climate science into conversations that move people to act.

Curious what a workshop looks like?

In November 2024, 23 educators from across the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem gathered at Teton Science School in Grand Teton National Park to explore wildlife as a lens for climate communication. Over four days, participants worked with wildlife biologists and NASA scientists, learned how to teach outdoor tracking and animal observation, and left with concrete tools for connecting their communities to climate change through species people care about. Lodging, meals, and stipends were provided through a grant from the Idaho STEM Action Center.

Workshop Participant Reviews

"The field day modeled how to ask questions and prompt students to think and come to conclusions while delivering factual information."

"I really valued identifying the barriers to climate change communication and strategies to maneuver around them — it will be very useful to be able to name them."

"I find this tangible outcome really valuable as a way to introduce these concepts to my team."
